It hit me as I entered the home of our shabbos accommodation in Glenhazel, South Africa 2 shabboses ago.
This summer bein hazmanim we had the great opportunity to go back home to Johannesburg, South Africa after a few years (AKA Corona). ☀
We stayed outside the main Jewish area, a 2 hour walk from the Jewish community and shuls on shabbos but we were with family and that was really important.
On the 2nd Friday morning at shacharis a friend from the community approached my husband and offered us his house in the Jewish center of Glenhazel for shabbos as they were going away.
Wow, I was stunned 🎇
An opportunity to be in the frum environment for shabbos,
for my Israeli children to understand the activity and richness of the Joburg Shabbos energy from the inside.
We jumped on it and decided to go 🚗
We packed our food that we had already cooked and the cholent pot (think winter…) and arrived.
I walked through the door and I just stared.
What a beautiful home! Neat, modern and organized for a big family.
But what hit me most was that central, on their wall, was an array of beautiful framed Gedolim portraits.
Tthe Chason Ish, Rav Kanievsky, Rav Moshe were just a few…
I immediately knew the essence of this family.
I knew the level of their connection to true torah values and what they were striving to be and to teach their children.
They had beautiful Jewish art up as well, but the central wall in the lounge was reserved for gedolim.
We felt immediately at home, as we have our gedolim artworks front and center as you walk into our home.
Many of the same gedolim.
