Opportunity often knocks at the most unexpected time

While my head was still numb from Oct 7, I certainly was not thinking about business in any way yet.

Somehow my eye noticed a message on a group “Calling Israeli vendors for a great opportunity”.

It caught my eye and aroused my curiosity.

I opened the message and read the cryptic call for an amazing chance for Israeli vendors willing to travel.

One hour later I was on a zoom call with 60 other people from all over Israel finding our more information.

And a day later I booked my ticket to fly to JFK for 12 days during a war!

And it was such an incredible opportunity for us.

If there is one thing I learnt from last year its always consider what Hashem puts before you!

And so I went on the most incredible trip to the east coast of the US.

Displaying at 9 fairs over 12 days in New York and New Jersey, the trip was exhilarating and exhausting!

I stayed at incredible hosts in Teaneck and 5 Towns and drove over the George Washington bridge a million time to present at fairs in Livingston, Edison, White Plains, Paramus, Manhattan, Brooklyn and 5 Towns.

The response from the fairs was incredible.

People loved the new art form, the laser cut stainless steel. They loved the three-dimensional relief that you can see from the side which transforms the artwork from 2D.  They loved the material.

They loved the concept of our Gedolim in modern beautiful design.

One man bought his Rav, Rav Moshe Feinstein as his wife asked “ where are you putting this? Israel? America? And he answered I don’t know I will figure it out!”.

Another two young ladies wanted to engrave a dedication to their beloved Chabad principal on the artwork of the Lubavitcher Rebbe as an end of year present from the grade.

Another family, mom, dad, daughter and elderly grandma all contributed to buy Rav Shayale as a gift for another daughter.

One husband looked over and over again at the picture of the Lubavitcher Rebbe. After the fair, the wife contacted me and secretly bought her husband the portrait for his birthday!

It was an amazing education for a South African Israeli like me to understand the different communities and personalities in the cities that everyone had always spoken about around me in Ramat Beit Shemesh.

I have been surrounded by Americans for the last 20 years but have never experienced the communities they spoke about from close by.

I visited the schools and shuls of Frisch, Rinat Yisrael, Kingsway, Lincoln Square and HAFTR.

The hachnasat orchim I experienced was something from out of this world. Truly incredible and inspirational. The support from the general American Jewry coming out in their masses to support Israel was so heartwarming and strengthening. In total around 9000 Jews came out to support the Israeli vendors.

I look forward to coming back to see many of the other communities that I did not see but for now it looks like the next trip may be to Florida (stay tuned…).
