Rav Halbershtam was born in Poland and aided his father – Rav Ben Zion Halbershtam – in running Bobov yeshivos prior to the holocaust.

Having lost almost his entire family in the holocaust he moved to the United States where he worked to rebuild his chassidus.

He established schools and yeshivas as well as numerous organizations to help those in need.
