Rav Menachem Mendel Schneerson (רב מנחם מנדל שניורסון), the 7th Lubavitch Rebbe was born in 1902 in Nikolaev, Ukraine.
He succeeded his father-in-law as leader of Chabad Chasiddus in 1950, a position he held until his passing in 1994. He is credited with rebuilding Chabad after the holocaust.
He was known for his broad knowledge in all areas of Torah and his view that he and his followers should actively attend to the needs of every Jew, no matter their level of observance. Under his leadership his disciples have set up communities in all corners of the world with the aim of providing Jewish services to all those who require them.
